Viktor Blom Leaves Team PokerStars Pro

Legendary poker player Viktor Blom, who plays under the moniker Isildur1, and PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker room, have parted ways. In other words, Blom is no longer a member of Team PokerStars Pro. It was PokerNews.com, which first noticed this and reported the news, and now the online poker gaming community is busy trying to guess the reasons for this development.

According to Eric Hollreiser, head of corporate communications for PokerStars, PokerStars and Blom mutually decided to part ways. Blom himself has nothing much to say about it. He simply stated, “I’ve enjoyed my time as a Team Pro and I wish everyone at PokerStars the best. Now I just want to concentrate on playing poker.”

If there is any special reason for Blom to leave PokerStars, nobody knows it; but this doesn’t stop the online poker community from developing theories of their own. Many feel that Blom is planning to become a sponsored player at Full Tilt Poker once PokerStars re-launches it in November. Recently, the US DoJ and PokerStars signed a settlement deal worth $731 million, according to terms of which PokerStars will reimburse Full Tilt Poker’s international players and acquire the site. PokerStars will also pay a sum of $547 in three installments over 3 years, and the DoJ will use this money to reimburse Full Tilt Poker’s US players.

PokerStars is taking all the required steps to re-launch Full Tilt Poker in November as a separate brand with its own promotions and games. Since Blom was a very popular poker figure on Full Tilt Poker before the crackdown, poker players believe that he will naturally fit in as a new pro at the newly launched Full Tilt Poker.

In fact, Blom had begun his online poker career at Full Tilt Poker as a stranger. Although his identity was not known back in 2009, he captured the attention of the poker gaming community by playing high stakes poker against famous professional poker players Phil Ivey, Patrik Antonius, and Tom “durrrr” Dwan. He began losing and winning in hundreds and thousands of dollars, and his identity was finally revealed during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. PokerTableRatings.com had reported that Blom was associated with ten of the largest online poker jackpots and had won four of them, adding a cool $3.5 million to his bankroll.

In December 2009, Blom lost more than $4 million while playing against Brian Hastings, the CardRunner instructor. However, Hastings informed ESPN that his co-worker Brian Townsend had “analyzed a database of heads-up hands that Isildur1 had played and constructed ranges of what Isildur1 was doing in certain spots.” Reportedly, Townsend passed on this information to Hastings and helped him to win a poker match against Isildur1.

In 2012, Blom finished in the 14th place in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) $50k Poker Players’ Championship, and in May, he won the two lucrative Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) events at PokerStars. Blom is not only talented at cash games, but is also a formidable force at poker tournaments.
