US Poker Professionals Not Able to Get Visas To Canada

Most American Poker Professionals are ready to pack their bags and move to a different country that allows them to play poker online legally. Some of them include Phil Galfond, Daniel Negreanu, Daniel Cates and many others.

Phil Galfond also known as OMGClayAiken left New York and is headed to Vancouver in order to re-establish himself so that he can play online poker for a living. Daniel Cates is trying to do the same but has had trouble with the Canadian immigration authorities and has been deported stating that he is an illegal immigrant, he is now trying his chances in Seattle for a temporary visa.

Phil Galfond won the $5000 WSOP Pot-Limit Omaha with Rebuys in 2008 and ended up with $817781 and has tweeted regarding his relocation. Phil was also known as ‘MrSweet28’ and is probably the only one who has stated that PokerStars has been responsive and responsible in getting players on setting up again. Phil is from North Potomac in Maryland and he has stated that he is disappointed with PartyPoker since they have not responded to his emails stating he would like to reuse his account once again. Phil has been playing online poker in Canada for about three months now, and he even tweeted saying that he has been off poker for so long that he had forgotten about downswings, but he is happy to be playing poker again.

Daniel Cates, however, has had tough luck, since he was not able to get a permanent visa to Canada stating that the played online poker for a living, and he is now stuck in Seattle figuring out a temporary visa for the present. It has been stated several times over online poker forums and news related to Black Friday and its effects that people who try to relocate to different countries only on the basis of playing poker online might not be able to get a visa for the same. Although these countries allow online poker and treat it as legal, these players will have to show a different source of income and sustenance if they want to move to these countries. Nations will not risk their economy on such a crowd and their chances.

Many online poker pros that have been on top like Daniel Cates are now stuck with these thoughts of moving abroad, but resuming online poker play cannot just be the only thing in their new lifestyle. Ever since Black Friday, many different facets of the issues related to legalization of online poker have come forward, many bills have been passed and many have not, many states are on the verge of announcing the legalization of online poker within the state which will be put into effect as soon as the government gives a ‘go’, but the government seems not very keen on giving the ‘go’ that is required to fuel this lucrative online business. Hence, online poker alliances and organizations have taken different measures to make the government realize in terms of revenues and numbers how this would be a good deal.
