Bulgarian Player Petar Zografov Wins Eureka Poker Tour Championship Title

CardPlayer.com, a prominent poker portal, recently reported that Petar Zografov, a Bulgarian poker player, has become the first Bulgarian to win the PokerStars Eureka Poker Tour Bulgaria, the second edition of which was held in Bulgaria this June.

Petar Zogarfov does not play online, but focuses only on live poker gaming and live poker tournaments. He is one of those little-known poker players who are yet to take part in prestigious live poker events such as World Series of Poker (WSOP), World Poker Tour (WPT), and European Poker Tour (EPT). He has won cash playing live poker tournaments twice so far.

Zografov emerged as the last man standing of a total player field of 246. The event ended as an action-packed and exciting heads-up match between Algirdas Saveikis, a Lithuanian poker player, and Zografov, which lasted for nearly 3 hours. Ultimately, Zografov emerged as the victor, but won a lesser amount because of a heads-up deal he had struck with Saveikis as the latter was the chip leader during the initial phases of the heads-up match. Since Saveikis was the chip leader when the heads-up commenced, it was widely believed that Saveikis would win the match, but this was not to be.

As per the heads-up agreement, Zografov collected a prize of €48,745 although he emerged as the champion of the event, and the runner-up Saveikis collected a prize of €51,645. The two players exhibited equal poker prowess throughout the heads-up match, pulling up to the position of chip leader in turns till the showdown determined Zografov as the winner of he match.

The final hand was the most exciting of them all with Saveikis calling to Zografov’s raise of 100k. Zografov placed a wager of 75k when Saveikis checked, and Saveikis responded by pulling it up to 180k. Zografov’s next step was to reload and place a wager of 325k, a move that prompted the Lithuanian player to bet all-in for close to 1.2 million. Unfortunately for Saveikis, the turn and the river turned out to be luckier for Zografov, who presented an undeniably superior hand and won the match.

As the first Bulgarian to win the PokerStars Eureka Poker Tour Bulgaria in his own country, Zografov is elated. He said, “To win the trophy in my home country is the perfect situation, I feel great”.

The second edition of the Eureka Poker Tour Bulgaria was held in Grand Casino International belonging to Golden Sands Resort in Varna. The event began on June 4 and ended on June 10, and the €1k buy-in main event was held on the last three days.

According to the final results of the main event, the winner of the championship title Petar Zografov of Bulgaria won €48,745, and the runner-up Algirdas Saveikis of Lithuania won €51,645. The players who finished third, fourth, and fifth were Ted Stolzenbach of Netherlands, Slaven Popov of Bulgaria, and Michal Misterek of Poland, who won €22,050, €17,300, and €14,300, respectively. The players who finished sixth, seventh, and eighth were €11,900, €9,550, and €7,600, respectively.
