Titan Poker Gets French License

The online poker community in France was overjoyed when Titan Poker obtained a French license to launch online gaming services in France, approved by the Regulatory Authority of Online Games late in the year 2010. Accordingly, Titan Poker began offering poker services at titanpoker.fr, giving French poker players a chance to enjoy its topnotch online poker gaming services. Shortly before getting a French license, Titan Poker had joined the iPoker Network, which is a part of Playtech, a prominent online gaming software developer.

Recently, online punters in France have a reason to rejoice. Titan Poker was awarded its second French license by the Autorite De Regulation Des Jeux En Ligne (ARJEL), the gaming authority in France, enabling it to launch online sportsbetting services. The Nation Traffic SAS, which owns Titan’s .fr domain, now holds this new license.

Titan Poker, as soon as it received its first license, stated that it will tackle the issue of problem gambling by providing online gamblers a wide range of features and facilities to regulate their online gaming activities. It also extended support to its old players to make use of its French online poker room’s Mac platform, which offered excellent facilities for loyal Titan Poker players and generous bonuses for new players.

France had legalized its online gaming industry in early 2010, providing licenses to many offshore operators for the first time in the history of its online gambling industry. While many people have expressed their appreciation of these new gambling laws, many feel that the system is not clear enough. Some have even accused the French government of using these new laws to overtax them.

Mr. Jean-Francois Cope, the previous budget minister of France, had set up a consultative committee to implement a “monitoring policy of responsible games and gambling.” This committee was given the responsibility to ensure that online gaming activities were safe, accountable, and reliable. The setting up of this committee led to a wide range of exciting developments in France.

First, the French government announced its intention of welcoming offshore gambling companies to set up their business on French soil, provided they adhere to European Union (EU) regulations. Budget Minister Eric Woerth drafted laws to regulate, legalize, and tax the online gaming industry in France. The French online gaming industry has been developing and flourishing ever since.

Second, the ARJEL issued around 17 licenses to start online gaming services to around 11 online gaming operators. The holders of these licenses were permitted to offer online punting, online poker, and horse betting services. Most of these online gaming operators are of French origin, but certain offshore companies such as Everest Poker of Canada, BWIN of Austria, and BetClic of Malta also obtained French licenses. Online poker rooms were, however, made to wait for their licenses while providers of horse betting and sports betting were allowed to launch their online businesses quickly.

The latest company to receive the French license is Titan, which now offers its online poker and online sports betting services at titan.fr.
