Wynn Las Vegas Sues PokerStars’ Players for Dice Sliding

Wynn Las Vegas has filed a civil case against Veronica Dabul and Leonardo Fernandes, both associated with PokerStars, for allegedly sliding dice at the Craps tables and pocketing a breathtakingly large sum of $700k.

The duo allegedly collaborated with several other Craps players to slide dice, a Craps cheating technique also known as scooting dice, during which the dice slider throws dice in such a way that at least one of the pair will show a six, greatly enhancing the dice slider’s chances of collecting a prize. Dice sliding, however, is very difficult to achieve and players hardly use it because it requires plenty of practice and skill.

According to Craps experts, a dice slider shoots the dice in such a manner that at least one of them show a six, and if they are lucky, both the dice show six, greatly enhancing players’ chances of making a payout. Even if the result is not a six, dice sliders can rest assured that the number that turns up will be greater than seven, which means that they can wager on numbers above seven and win prizes.

Legal Craps gaming requires shooters to toss the dice in such a way that they bounce off the wall of the craps table. Dice sliders function by distracting the dealer so that they cannot see exactly how the dice are slid. If the dealer is alert and notices that the dice are not shot in a legal manner, he/she is supposed to yell “no roll” and make the shooter shoot the dice once again.

Wynn Casino has several video tapes of the duo engaged in dice scooting, something they have been cleverly doing for the past 30 days. The two, however, were careful not to slide dice at the same time, and Fernandez never placed bets on the outcomes of dice slid by him. Wynn Casino has alleged that the couple collaborated with a number of other players, who used different tables at different times.

Those associated with the gaming industry find it amazing that the couple could keep it up for nearly one month without getting caught because dice sliding is an immensely difficult technique. According to Alan Mendelson, a former television reporter, dice sliding can easily be observed and stopped, adding that the couple might have had insider help if they were so successful.

The duo was arrested and Dabul even spent a couple of days in jail, but office of the district attorney has still not filed a criminal case against them.

Although Leonardo Fernandez is still a sponsored pro at PokerStars, Veronica Dabul is no longer in the sponsored players’ team. Fernandez finished 257th and carried off a cash prize of $35,383 in World Series of Poker Main Event 2008. He also won a huge sum of $554,924 after finishing second at the high roller PCA $25k poker tournament. Dabul finished 235th and won $35,282 in WSOP 2008, and a year later, she won the Shark Conservation Poker Tournament, which was held in Costa Rica.
