PokerStars Launches World Cup of Poker VIII Qualifiers
After Black Friday, several of the indicted online poker sites have had trouble getting back on their feet, but PokerStars has not been one of them. Although the PokerStars site is not able to cater to its US players as it once did, the site still manages to provide its UK and European players with plenty of poker action, poker tourneys and poker promotions.
One of its most recent offerings include qualifiers tourneys for one of the most world renowned poker tournaments – the World Cup of Poker. Often referred to as the WCP, the World Cup of Poker is set to run its 8th edition in 2012 and is scheduled to be held at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas. This WCP tourney will be a part of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) in January.
The 8th edition of the World Cup of Poker is expected to feature around seven different countries from different parts of the world vying for the cup. Each country will send out a team of poker players to compete in the World Cup of Poker and the team left standing will take home the title and the pot. Last year’s World Cup of Poker was won by the Italian poker team championed by Luca Pagano, a Team PokerStars Pro. The Italian poker team featured the likes of Marco Mancini, Davide Scafati, Litterio Pirrotta and Ravel Furfaro. They had defeated the UK poker team led by the beautiful Liv Boeree.
PokerStars has plans to set up one of the qualifier poker events for the 8th edition of the World Cup of Poker over the weekend. The qualifiers will go on for two days and players who win will be able to participate in the upcoming PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January 2012 from the 5th to the 15th. PokerStars will be hosting both free qualifiers for the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure along with events that require buy-ins.
After the players make it through the qualifier event, they will have to fight it out head to head in the regional knockout tourney events at PokerStars. Eventually, the top 4 poker players will move on to the 8th edition of the World Cup of Poker and will get to represent their nation at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure 2012.
Each five member team that will head to the WCP 2012 will have a captain, who is usually a poker professional from Team PokerStars; the second team member will be the goalkeeper while the third and fourth will be the defender and midfielder. The final member of the poker team headed to the WCP 2012 will be the striker. The poker team has been modeled on a football or soccer team. The PokerStars site will host qualifying events for each position and players will have to try to see which one they can take.
New players will automatically be eligible for entry into the qualifiers for the first position, which is the midfielder. New players will get the $11 stage one ticket that they can use to play as soon as they deposit if they use those code ‘WCP8.’
