PokerStars SuperStar Showdown – Negreanu Wins Rematch But Isildur Still Leads

The online poker community is following the PokerStars SuperStar Showdown, a series of heads-up no-limit Texas Hold’em or pot limit Omaha tournaments between Viktor “Isildur1” Blom and any poker player who takes up the challenge of playing 2,500 hands against him. The last player to take up the challenge was Daniel Negreanu, who had to fight a tough battle to maintain his lead position in the final phases of the match. Negreanu won the match, but Blom still remained in the lead as far as the cash was concerned, having won $123,500.

Blom’s Latest Showdown

During the first half of the heads-up tournament, Negreanu almost lost his entire chip stack; however, a poker miracle took place during the last moments of the rematch and Negreanu pulled himself ahead of his opponent, winning $26,500 after playing the required 2,500 hands of the rematch. However, the fact that Negreanu won did not change the overall match results. Blom had divested Negreanu of most of his chips during the first phase of the heads-up tournament, as a result of which he had won $150k. Owing to Negreanu’s incredible change of fortune, Blom’s profits were only lowered to $123,500, while Negreanu got his share of $26,500 for winning the match.

Blom has lost only twice over the entire course of the PokerStars Superstar Showdown. He is scheduled to play against Scott “URnotINdanger” Palmer in a similar 2-phased heads-up no-limit Texas Hold’em match, spanning over a period of 2 weeks and beginning on April 3.

SuperStar Showdown

PokerStars launched its SuperStar Showdown series after signing a promotional deal with Blom in late 2010. This promotion includes a series of heads-up matches, each comprising a session of 2,500 hands. Usually, the matches are no limit Texas Hold’em tournaments although Pot Limit Omaha tournaments can also be played. You don’t have to place extra bets or side bets and will lose only the bets you place on the table. If you lose your entire stake in the course of the match, you will have lost the match. You need to put up a bankroll of $150k to challenge Blom to this match, the stakes of which are set at $50/$100.
