PokerStars Launches 2012 SCOOP Featuring $30 Million Worth of Prizes

PokerStars, one of the top online poker rooms in the industry, recently announced that it would be running the Spring Championship of Online Poker 2012 shortly. This will be the 4th edition of the Spring Championship of Online Poker (or SCOOP as it is called) to be launched by PokerStars. The event has been scheduled to take place from the 6th of May, the next month to May 20th.

The Spring Championship of Online Poker hosted by the poker site will feature several poker events and tournaments; this year, the 2012 SCOOP will be featuring about 120 different poker tournaments and 40 events that have been scheduled to be conducted. Overall, PokerStars will be offering a total of $30 million worth of prize money to the winners as a guaranteed prize; however, it may be quite likely that the poker pots for these events will grow even more, granting larger prizes to the winners.

The Spring Championship of Online Poker 2012 will host different types of poker events but will finish with a Texas Hold’em Poker game of the No Limit variety for the Main event which will take place on the 20th of May. The buy-ins for this game will be set at $109 for low rollers and for those players who like medium stakes games there is a buy-in fee of $1,050. There is also a high stakes game with a $10,300 high buy-in and all these games have guaranteed prizes.

For the high stakes event with the $10K buy in, PokerStars has issued a $2,500,000 guaranteed prize while those players who opt in for the medium stakes game will get the opportunity to win a $1,500,000 prize guaranteed. The players who run the low limit tables will get a $1,000,000 as a prize.

What makes the Spring Championship of Online Poker stand out from other poker championship tourneys is that it offers different buy in limits for players ranging from low to medium to high.

Players will be able to use these buy-ins for all events of the online tournament. As a result the SCOOP is popular with players of different bankroll sizes.

According to Anders “Donald” Berg who is the 2011 winner of the SCOOP “Player of the Series” and a member of Team PokerStars Online, “SCOOP is always one of the highlights of the online poker calendar and I’ll be aiming to defend my Player of the Series title by playing as many events as possible. The tournament structures are excellent, the range of games unrivalled – it’s going to be an epic tournament series for me and many other players in May.”

Berg won the SCOOP final event in HORSE poker and managed to take cash prizes over twenty times. He also landed in the final sessions of the tourney 4 times.

Other poker players are also looking forward to the event and this includes the likes of Mickey “memento mori” Peterson, another member of the team. Peterson won an EPT Copenhagen tourney and is looking to win the SCOOP. “I’d really like to win a PokerStars SCOOP title. I have been close a lot of times but always stumbled right before the finish line. Hopefully I can win one this year,” he said.
