PokerStars Launches Beta Version of Free Play Poker App on Facebook

PokerStars recently launched a free play poker application called PokerStars.net on Facebook. Currently in the beta version, the app is not accessible because it has already met its player limit. Many in the industry feel that PokerStars.net will soon evolve into a real money poker site alongside its sister poker room PokerStars.com.

As previously mentioned, PokerStars.net is available for free play only. This means that players can neither lose nor win real money; instead, they will be using play chips to place bets. When they start with PokerStars.net, each player will receive 1,000 play chips. They can earn more play chips by playing poker regularly or claiming bonuses.

PokerStars is yet to reveal details on how exactly players can earn more play chips; however, it has suggested that additional play chips can be won by accepting “challenges” and making “achievements.” Challenges are specific tasks assigned to players by Live Boeree, a PokerStars pro, but achievements are those feats accomplished by players while playing poker. But PokerStars is yet to reveal finer details such as the exact differences between the two.

The app allows players to earn Experience Points and achieve Levels. Players are rewarded with one Experience Point as soon as they play one hand. Other ways to earn Experience Points are to accept challenges and present achievements.

If players’ accounts show less than 100 chips, they can be reset to 1000 chips thrice per hour. If players want more play chips, they can always earn them through their poker activities as mentioned before or purchase extra chips for real money.

PokerStars.net is packed with features commonly found on other social poker games such as Zynga Poker. For instance, players can purchase virtual accessories, which will be displayed near their table avatars. While some accessories can be purchased with chips, others can be purchased with gold coins only. Accessories purchased with chips last only for one session, while accessories purchased with gold coins remain till players replace or remove them. Players can purchase gold coins with real money, but they can also earn gold coins through achievements and challenges.

Although similar to other play money poker apps on Facebook, PokerStars.net is unique because it is closely associated with PokerStars.com. Players who have registered accounts at PokerStars.com can use their account details to log into PokerStars.net. They can add their Facebook friends to their list of poker friends on the app, exchange play chips, and even give and receive virtual gifts purchased with gold coins or play chips.

The player pool at PokerStars.net on Facebook can be merged with mobile or online play pools, which means that players playing on Facebook can play against those playing on their mobile devices or personal computers. Although player pools can be merged, poker tournaments may be held exclusively for Facebook players or PC players or mobile players.

Currently, PokerStars.net on Facebook offers only variants of Omaha and Texas Hold’em, but players can enjoy a wide range of poker tournaments, cash games, Zoom Poker games, and even Sit ‘n’ Gos.
