PokerStars to Celebrate 10th Anniversary with 10 Mega Poker Events
PokerStars didn’t actually have fun this year, what with the US federal government cracking down on it in mid-April this year, following which it had to leave the US market and lose its gaming revenue from the US online poker market. Still, this did not dampen PokerStars’ spirits. The online poker room immediately refunded its US online poker players and is now planning to celebrate its 10th anniversary by launching a grand anniversary promotion comprising 10 lucrative online poker events. However, the online poker room has revealed information regarding only 3 of these events.
The first event, titled 100th Anniversary Giveaway, challenges players to win one of the 100 prize packages to PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) 2012, which the online poker room will be giving away next month. Satellite qualifiers in the form of freerolls, 10 FPP tournaments, and $0.10 buy-in tournaments will be held regularly and the top players of each qualifier will be rewarded with free entries to a final event, which will be held twice weekly. The winners of the weekly finals will receive the PCA prize packages.
The freerolls will be run every 10 minutes daily and the top 10 players of each freeroll will gain entries to the weekly finals. The $0.10 buy-in tournaments will be held every hour and the 10 FPP tournaments will be held every half an hour, with the top 20 players of these satellites getting free entries to the weekly finals. The final events will be run on Sundays from Nov 13 to Dec 11. The top 1000 players of each weekly final will win their share of a prize pool of $10,000 while the top 10 players will receive a PCA prize package each.
Each PCA prize package is worth more than $15k and comprises the Main Event buy-in of $10k along with accommodation charges and spending money.
PokerStars Sunday Million event will be larger by $9 million on Dec 18. This event, which has a buy-in of $215 and a prize pool of $10 million, will commence at 2:30 p.m. ET. The qualifiers for this event have buy-ins to suit players with different bankroll sizes. For instance, the $11 Sunday Million Mega Satellite will start an hour before the Sunday Million, giving 1000 players the opportunity to win seats to the Sunday Million.
PokerStars will organize an online poker tournament with a buy-in of just $1, but a guaranteed prize pool of $250k on Dec 4. The first prize is a guaranteed $50k. In 2009, PokerStars made a record when 149,196 players participated in this event. The online poker room’s target for this year is at least 150,000 players. Owing to the large number of participants, this event can extend for hours and hours before it can reach the final table.
Online poker players only have to register a real play account at PokerStars and make an initial deposit in order to participate in this mega promotion. PokerStars intends to reveal deals of the other 7 poker events comprising its 10th anniversary promotion shortly.
