Negreanu to Play Limit Hold’em Challenge against rUaBot

Shortly after it launched its SuperStar Showdown Challenge, an opportunity for online poker players to play a heads up NL Hold’em match against Viktor Isildur1 Blom, the formidable online poker pro, PokerStars launched its Limit Hold’em Challenge.

The online poker room invites talented poker players to play high stakes poker in the Limit Hold’em Challenge. Accordingly, the first installment of the Limit Hold’em Challenge will be played on May 5 Saturday at 2:00 p.m. ET between a mysterious PokerStars player rUaBot and Daniel Negreanu, a member of Team PokerStars Pro. They will start with equal bankrolls of $75,000 and will play a total of 1,250 hands on two tables with betting limits set at $200/$400.

rUaBot, who will be playing against Negreanu, is relatively unknown; however, the PokerStars community knows him as an exceptionally talented Limit Hold’em player. Regarding the Limit Hold’em Challenge, rUaBot says, “In my opinion, fixed limit is more strategic than no limit. In no-limit, you always have some guessing games like ‘would he bluff here or wouldn’t he?.’ Of course, such situations often happen in fixed-limit, too, but there is much more space for general strategic adaptions than in no-limit. I think, setting up your standard game is pure math, but exploiting your opponents patterns is an art…and will always be!”

PokerStars’ move to launch the Limit Hold’em Challenge is especially delightful to online poker players fond of the Limit Hold’em format. A number of players are disappointed that the format is now growing less popular as poker enthusiasts are getting more interested in poker variants such as Omaha and No Limit Hold’em.

According to poker experts, the Limit Hold’em format has declined in popularity because it is not that profitable, has small pots, and is unsuited for television broadcast. But PokerStars hopes that its Limit Hold’em Challenge series will rekindle interest in the format and attract more new players toward the game.

This is how the online poker room refers to the format on its website, “Limit Hold’em games are a great alternative to the frenzied action on the No Limit tables.”
