New Team PokerStars Pro Member

Martin Staszko is not only the newest member of Team PokerStars Pro, but is also the second player from the Czech Republic to join the PokerStars family. The 35-year-old poker player was unknown till he emerged as the runner up of the WSOP 2011 Main Event and collected a prize of $5.4 million. The last man standing of the Main Event was Pius Heniz, a German poker player, who joined Team PokerStars Pro in November.

Staszko plays as filfedra at PokerStars and was already noticed for his online poker success. In May, he won the Spring Championship of Online Poker, collecting a prize of $91,500, and in September, he finished fourth in the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP), collecting a prize of $73k.

Before becoming a successful poker player, Staszko was employed as a foreman in Trinec, from where he hails. His work comprised 12-hour shifts, leaving him just four or five hours to sleep. He has now left his old lifestyle long behind him.

Speaking about his career, Staszko said that he enjoys playing live poker, but prefers online poker for certain practical reasons. He says that he can play daily without ancillary costs. Stating that the Czech Republic runs no live poker tournament worth speaking about, he said that tournaments with $275 or $550 buy ins are not interesting when he has to pay travel and accommodation charges.
