Eugene Katchalov is Now Part of Team PokerStars

PokerStars, the largest online poker room, has been known to choose only the best of poker players for its team. Team PokerStars already comprises legendary professional poker players such as Dario Minieri, Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso, Viktor “isildur1” Blom, Chris Moneymaker, Vanessa Selbst, Ruben Visser, JP Kelly, and others. Recently, the online poker room announced that it has introduced Eugene Katchalov, a 29-year-old American professional poker player, into Team PokerStars Pro.

Katchalov, as his name reveals, was born at Kiev in Ukraine in Feb 21, 1981, but his family migrated into America when he was barely 10 and he has been living in New York ever since. He got his first taste of poker when he was still a college student; and the year 2004 marked his first poker win at a live poker tournament. Katchalov has been a professional poker player ever since.

He won jackpot after jackpot and his total winnings from live poker events have mounted to an unbelievable amount of $6,104,132. He won his biggest prize of $2,482,605 in Dec 2007 at the World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic, the largest prize ever given away for a non-championship poker event. The poker player has also been successful at the World Series of Poker (WSOP), the European Poker Tour (EPT) of 2005, and the Bellagio Cup III.

Katchalov attracted a great deal of attention after defeating Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu at the $100k PCA Super High Roller heads-up tournament in January 2011 and collecting a cool prize of $1.5 million. Although he lost, Negreanu is full of praise for Katcholov and is delighted that he is part of the team. Referring to Katchalov as “a great guy and an excellent poker ambassador,” he said that the poker community respects Katchalov’s game and considers him as the world’s best player of poker tournaments and ring games.

Katchalov is successful not only at live poker, but also at online poker; in fact, he is a formidable force to be reckoned with at the poker tables. Widely known by his username “MyRabbiFoo,” his total online winnings amount to $831,118. He has always expressed his fondness for PokerStars and has even won $140k in the PokerStars WCOOP head-up tournament in 2009.

Speaking about his successful poker career, he reveals that he got interested in the game after watching the World Poker Tour (WPT) on television. He was in awe of the players and the amount of money staked, he says. Later, he was tutored by Nick Schulman, a professional poker player who later became one of his best friends. Acknowledging Schulman’s influence in his career, he said that they discussed the game a lot and each helped fine tune the other’s game.

Katchalov said that he feels very fortunate at having got the opportunity to be part of Team PokerStars, which has “great team of pros.” He also expressed his eagerness to continue working on his career at PokerStars and to help PokerStars expand and evolve within the poker world.
