Party Poker Modifies Cash Rake System and Rewards Scheme

Party Poker has modified its cash rake system and the changes were introduced on Aug 24. Party Poker’s low stakes players might welcome these changes because it will increase their ability to release bonuses and grab the benefits of its Palladium Rewards scheme. Simultaneously, it also means a higher rake for mid rollers and high rollers.

Party Poker now awards Party Points for rake contributed by a player to the pot, which means that it will no longer divide the total rake contributed among all the players at a poker table irrespective of whether or not they are playing the hand. This will ensure that active players are amply rewarded and will discourage players from multi tabling, but not participating in the hands played.

The online poker room will award 2 Party Points for every $1 rake contributed during a ring game or paid as buy-in to tournaments. The only difference is that the Party Points players earn depend on their individual contributions and have nothing to do with the rake contributed by the other players at the table.

Here is an example that will help players understand these changes better. According to the old system, if 10 players contribute a total of $1 to the pot, each player will receive 0.2 Party Points. According to the new system, if only two of the 10 players had contributed equal amounts to the pot, they will receive 1 Party Point each, which the players who contributed nothing will receive no Party Points.

The online poker room will continue deducting 5 percent of the rake in case of NL Hold’em cash games; however, if the stakes are $3/$6 and $15/$30, $3 to $5 will be the rake deducted in case of full ring games and 6 max games, $2 to $5 in case of four-handed tables, and $1 to $2 in case of heads up tables.

The above-mentioned changes simply mean that mid rollers and high rollers will be receiving extra Party Points, but the jackpot size will be considerably reduced. For instance, a $100 jackpot will give players of NL Hold’em $5/$10 cash games $97 in the old system, while in the new system, it will give them only $95.

Online poker players are wondering how these modifications will benefit the online poker room as well as its players. The new system will encourage more low stakes players to join the site while penalizing mid rollers and high rollers. The fish will be greatly attracted to the online poker room because it gives them an opportunity to earn more points. However, there is nothing to attract the sharks to Party Poker, not even the site’s welcome bonuses, which are among the lowest in the industry.

The new system will be frustrating for mid rollers who do not like playing low stakes games, but cannot afford the high stakes tables. This might even cause a large number of them to either leave Party Poker or to play low stakes games at the online poker room.
