Caesars’ WSOP.com Likely to be Launched This Summer

Caesars hosted a press conference recently, during which it declared that it will be launching WSOP.com, a real money online poker room, in Nevada this summer.

Caesars Corporate Communications Vice President Seth Palansky said: “We’re hard at work completing the necessary steps as required to bring it to market. We can’t confirm an exact launch date, but we know it will be this summer. The reality for us is, when we have it right and have all the appropriate signoffs, we’ll be ready to go … It won’t be too much longer.”

The company had initially mulled over the idea of launching WSOP.com before the World Series of Poker (WSOP) began, but the company has no time to do so because the WSOP is just two weeks away and it needs time to iron out some issues.

The first licensed online poker room to be launched in Nevada was Ultimate Poker, which has now successfully completed three weeks of its one-month “field test.”

Nevada gambling regulators granted an online poker license to Caesars Interactive Entertainment in Dec 2012. But Caesars could not launch an online poker product right away because it required 888’s online poker software platform to do so. The two companies are already operating an online poker room under the WSOP.com brand in Europe.

Nevada granted 888 an interactive poker license in March. 888 also plans to establish the All American Poker Network (AAPN) and has gotten into a partnership deal with Treasure Island, which will be launching an online poker room in Nevada and will be first AAPN skin.

A number of other companies are on the verge of launching online poker rooms in Nevada. It was initially believed that South Point Poker would be the first company to launch a real money poker room in Nevada as it was the first to receive a license. However, software testing issues have delayed the South Point Poker launch.

MGM is currently weighing the pros and cons of starting an online poker business in Nevada. The company has already signed a partnership deal with Boyd and Bwin.party. While Boyd has already received a license, Bwin.party is still waiting for one. Nevada regulators have also licensed companies such as SHFL, IGT, and Bally to run online poker businesses in its jurisdiction.

WSOP.com had published an advertisement for the past two months, in which it declared that “online poker for real money is coming soon.”

Palansky said: “We intend to be in this business 100 years from now so for us, it’s not about when we start. We just have a lot of boxes to check off to meet the requirements, which is fine and it won’t be too much longer.”
