Sam Trickett Wins Best UK Cash Player Award

Sam Trickett has made online as well as live poker players sit up and take notice of his recent poker success. As a crown to his successful poker career, Trickett has been voted as the Best Cash Player of the UK, an award that he received at the second British Poker Awards ceremony, held as part of the Poker in the Park Festival. Last year, Trickett had bagged the Best New Player Award at the very first British Poker Awards ceremony.

Born in Notthinghamshire, Trickett achieved his first cash at his very first live poker tournament, played in 2007. He began playing online poker the very next year, and soon the online poker gaming community had started taking notice of him. By March 2010, Trickett became part of the sponsored professional poker players’ team at Titan Poker.

In May 2010, Trickett had complained that he had had a very bad time in 2009 and could survive only because he played cash games. He said that he had lost £100,000 playing poker tournaments, but could make up for the loss by winning cash games. Stating that all the best poker players play cash games well, he said that only a few poker players can get by playing only tournaments and that Phil Hellmuth is one such player.

Trickett, who is now 25 years old, had won a huge sum of $497,472 in the year 2008 and $94,894 in the year 2009. Although he initially used to complain that he was not having much luck with tournaments, he managed to win a whopping sum of $1,071,356 in the year 2010, and his total live tournament winnings so far are $4,728,178. This simply proves that Trickett, who is known as a specialist in high-stakes cash games, is an excellent poker tournament player too.

Although it is very difficult to track a player’s wins and losses in cash games, the online poker media learned that Trickett won a total of £1 million pounds at the beginning of this year in a high-stakes cash poker game, which was run at Macau. Later, Trickett admitted to the media that he used the strategy of bluffing at a crucial point in the game—one that changed the course of the game in his favour. He was playing against Tom at that time and said that he could feel his hands shaking as he collected his prize of £200,000. His opponent, who observed his nervous excitement, texted him that he had made a nice bluff and reassured him that he used to feel the same way when he bluffed at a live poker tournament for the first time.

Sam Trickett plays at PokerStars as tr1cky7 and has a bankroll worth $346,718 there.

Other poker players who bagged the British Poker Awards were Jake Cody, Chris Moorman, Kara Scott, John Duthie, Richard Ashby, Jason Mercier, J. P. Kelly, Neil Channing, Vicky Coren, Matt Perrins, Roy Houghton, and others. TwoPlusTwo.com, the popular online poker forums, won the Best Poker Forum Award.
