Play Poker Online on Mac for Real Money

The online poker industry has come a very long way since its primitive begins in the late 1990s. Back then, Mac poker players were perfectly welcome to play online poker, but were forcefully subjected to the use of the Flash-powered poker room, which in those days was slow, bug-riddled, twitchy, and less than enjoyable, to put it mildly.

Today, you can play poker on Mac for real money with the confidence of knowing you are getting the best online poker experience, no matter how you play it. Those Flash programs are still around, but they’re much more advanced. And finally, after years of waiting, you can download online poker for Mac at the right poker rooms.

Play Poker on Mac for Real Money – Download

Mac poker players begged for a downloadable poker client for a decade before it finally became a realization. In September of 2008, PokerStars was the first online poker room to release a Mac-friendly download to play online poker for real money.

The Mac-compatible poker client was years in the making – two years of development plus another nine months in beta testing – and proved an absolute success upon launch. A few months later, Full Tilt Poker followed in their footsteps. Absolute Poker and UltimateBet were soon to follow as well.

Downloadable Mac poker software is highly functional, fast and just as user-friendly as the PC version. In fact, the only problem is that not enough online poker rooms have taken the extra step to provide their members with the option to play poker on Mac for real money.

Play Poker on Mac for Real Money – Flash

If you don’t want to join any of the online poker rooms with a downloadable Mac poker client, there are still plenty of Mac-friendly poker sites providing a Flash-powered experience. The quality still does not quite match that of the download version, but it’s a far cry from the Flash poker of the 90s.

The graphic quality has certainly improved, as has the speed. There are no longer buggy glitches freezing up the tables and forcing you to log back in on a regular basis. Overall, the experience is very similar to that of the download poker client.

The load time is a bit slower, which is to be expected. Flash poker requires you to load all graphics, animations, sound effects, etc. as they occur, whereas the download version has all relative files already loaded on your computer for faster loading.

All that’s required is a java-capable system. Any computer developed in the last 5 years should come pre-equipped with Java pre-installed. If not, you’ll be prompted to install the latest version of Java when you attempt to use the Flash-based poker room. And so long as you have a decent internet connection, playing Flash poker on Mac for real money isn’t something to be wary of. Like the download version, however, there aren’t a whole lot of online poker rooms that still supply Flash poker. Party Poker and Pacific Poker are the most prominent among them.
