Tom Schneider Reveals Plans to Move Away from Poker

Poker pro Tom Schneider has done extremely well this World Series of Poker (WSOP) season. He not only won the third and fourth WSOP gold bracelets of his career and more than $600k in prize money, but also won both the WSOP HORSE tournaments and finished in the cash in seven WSOP events.

In spite of his poker success, Schneider says that he prefers to focus on his regular job, hobbies, and other interests in the future. In an exclusive interview with Card Player, Schneider gave reasons for coming to such a decision.

Stating that he felt quite capable of playing with top poker pros such as Tom McEvoy, Bobby Baldwin, Huck Seed, and others, he said: “Winning a tournament just means that you played that tournament really well and got pretty lucky, it doesn’t make you the best in the world. I’m confident in my HORSE game, but just because I won both HORSE events this summer doesn’t mean I’m the best HORSE player in the world.”

Schneider has currently stopped playing full-time poker and has become the chief financial officer of Loud Mouth Golf. When asked about his decision to take up a regular job, he admitted that he is indeed moving away from poker. Admitting that he is a bit bored with poker, he said that it is just not his passion as it once was. He said: “I feel like having a semi-normal job outside of poker has actually helped my game. When I do play, I look forward to playing. I’m not there to waste time or go through the motions. I’m there to win money.”

When asked to further explain his statement that is getting a bit bored with poker, he clarified that it is not poker he is getting bored with, but just NLHE games. He said that he would like to continue playing if there were more mixed games on the circuit, but it is really difficult for him to get excited with NLHE tournaments.

Complaining about the time taken by players to come to a decision, he said that each hand lasts as long as five minutes because of this. He said that players who take too long to make a move “don’t realize that some people who come to these tournaments are taking their one shot” and that they ruining the game for everybody.

Explaining his preference for HORSE games, he said that he likes them because they are played eight handed, adding that his edge in HORSE games comes from “patience and playing better starting hands.”

Regarding his plans for the near future, Schneider said that he will focus on being the chief financial officer for Loud Mouth Golf. He also revealed his plans to spend some time on passions such as singing, writing music, and playing golf. Stating that he is no longer falls into the category of players who stick to poker rooms even when they are not winning money, he said that this attitude will actually make him a better poker player.
