English Poker Player Alner Wins Macau Poker Cup 2013 Red Dragon Trophy

Tom Alner, a professional poker player from England, has had remarkable poker success in the Asia Pacific, especially in Macau. The pro won the third edition of the Macau Poker Cup 2013 Red Dragon and collected a large pot of HK$823k or $106k for his achievement. He had to beat as many as 645 players in order to win this title, which happens to be his best poker result in Macau.

When the final table play boiled down to just Jason Chong, Alner, Victor Sheerman, and Wilson, the four players struck a deal, as a result of which Alner grabbed the championship title and the first-place prize, which is bigger than the other pots of $78,189, $5,491, and $38,543 he had won in Macau, the biggest gambling hub in all Asia.

The final table results of the Macau Poker Cup 2013 Red Dragon are as follows: As previously mentioned, English poker pro Tom Alner became the champion and went home with the first place prize of HK$823k. The runner-up Jason Chong of Singapore collected the second-place prize of HK$7587k. The players who finished third and fourth were Wilson Fu of China and Victor Sheerman of Russia, who collected pots worth HK$853k and HK$317k, respectively. The players who finished fifth and sixth were Thomas Ward of New Zealand and Brian Yip of Hong Kong, who returned home with HK$317k and HK$253k, respectively. Aussie poker pro Frank Maley finished seventh and won HK$206k while Joao de Castro of Portugal finished eighth and won HK$158k. The first player to bust at the final table was Japanese player Shinichi Takenouchi, who won HK$126,578 for his efforts.

When the tournament reached its final day, Alner held the sixth largest stack of chips among the 21 players left standing. Brian Yip of Hong Kong had the advantage of a huge chip lead over the other players. Day 3 of the event began with Yip holding a stack of 1.656 million chips, while his toughest opponent Lap Kay Chan had 769,000 chips. Yip, how had a Three of Hearts and a Two of Diamonds bet all on the Jack of Spades, Four of Hearts, and Two of Clubs on the board after Fu made a raise. When Fu called with a Jack of Hearts and Ace of Diamonds, the Five of Diamonds that appeared on the turn favored Fu more than Yip, as a result of which Yip found himself out of the game.

When Thomas Ward bust in the fifth position, the last four players left standing made a deal, according to which Sheerman collected HK$853k, Fu won HK$827k, Alner got HK$723k, and Chong collected HK$758k. The four then continued to play for the remaining HK$100k and the championship title, and ultimately, Alner turned out to be the last man standing.

Some of the other noteworthy players who finished in the cash were Daoxing Chen who finished 33rd and won HK$28,500, Kai Paulsen who finished 23rd and won HK$34,800, and Daniel Laidlaw who finished 51st and collected HK$22,200.
