Senior Poker Tour Will be Held for Senior Poker Players

The number of poker players who had played poker for a major part of their adult life is on the rise. The Senior Poker Tour (SPT), meant especially for poker players who are above 50 years of age, will be held this year.

The SPT’s first stop will be at the Horseshoe Casino in Tunica from Jan 15 – 19, 2014. These five days will be packed with poker events for everybody. Qualifier satellites for the main event will be held on Jan 14, and the actual SPT will begin on Jan 15. The start day will not only be Day 1A of the $550 buy-in SPT Main Event, but also the day on which events such as two Texas Hold’em tournaments and a $230 buy-in Omaha Hi/Lo tourney will be held. On Jan 16, a bounty tournament, a HORSE tournament, and an Omaha event will be held. January 16 will also be Day 1B of the main event. On January 17, a Texas Hold’em tournament, a mixed Omaha and Stud tournament, and a Six Max Hold’em tournament will be held. The final table of the SPT Main Event will be held on Jan 19, and on the same day, a PL Omaha tournament, a HORSE tournament, and a $230 buy-in NL tournament will also be held.

Announcing the SPT schedule, Mark Kroon, who plays under the moniker “P0keH0” said: “This is such a wonderful idea and I am both excited and proud to be a part of the Senior Poker Tour Team. There is something positive to be said about playing in a more mature player field.” Senior poker players such as Kroon; Linda Johnson and Tom McEvoy, both members of the Poker Hall of Fame; and Susie Isaacs, Jan Fisher, and Marsha Waggoner, Team SPT members, will take part in the event.

SPT Vice President Hal Coblentz said: “With the increase of poker players over 50, it only makes sense to feature this segment of the poker world. By bringing an SPT event to some of the top casinos in the country, we hope to support and recognize this segment of the industry, allowing competition at its best amongst their peers.”

Room rates will be made available at heavy discounts to encourage senior poker players to take part in the first ever SPT. Rooms are available at Harrah’s for just $30 per night from Sunday to Thursday and $60 per night on Fridays and Saturdays. Senior poker players who want to take part in the SPT can book rooms for $45 per night from Sundays to Thursdays and $85 per night on Fridays and Saturdays at the Horseshoe.

The SPT National Championship will be held as part of the Grand Poker Series at The Golden Nugget in Las Vegas in the summer. It will have a buy-in of $1100, and senior players can qualify for it through satellites.

The event is expected to attract a number of senior poker players. In 2012, the $1k Seniors Event held as part of the WSOP drew 4128 players.
