German Pro Ole Schemion Win GPI 2013 Player of the Year Title

The Global Poker Index (GPI) has officially declared that Ole Schemion, the German professional poker player, has won the GPI 2013 Player of the Year title.

A posting on the GPI website says that Ole Schemion has successfully established himself as one of the greatest poker players in the world although he is only 21 years old. In the years to come, Schemion could climb to the very pinnacles of success in live tournament poker.

Schemion has succeeded Dan Smith, the winner of GPI Player of the Year title of 2012. Schemion could achieve this glory because of his spectacular performances at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), the European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final, the EPT Prague, the Lebanese Poker Tour, and many others.

Schemion raced up the Player of the Year leader board because of his excellent performance at the Barcelona leg of the EPT last September. He finished in the cash thrice, and this includes two sixth-place finishes in the Super High Roller and High Roller tournaments as well as a win in the EPT Barcelona Main Event. After this, Schemion had to compete with just a handful of poker players, such as Daniel Negreanu, who continued to hang on to the number-one position. Ultimately, Negreanu lost his position because of Schemion’s top performance at the final tables of EPT Prague.

In November, he finished 20th in the Master Classic of Poker No-limit Hold’em Main Event and collected a prize of €10,621; and in December, he finished fifth in the EPT Prague No-limit Hold’em Main Event, which had a buy-in of €5,300, and carried home a six-figure prize of €218,300.

Besides, Schemion will win the Rookie of the Year Award once again this year, for the second time in his career. Since he dominates at the international level, he will also win the GPI National Germany Player of the Year title, becoming Germany’s star poker player.

Schemion had beaten fellow German pros Marvin Rettenmaier and Philipp Gruissem to grab the National Player of the Year title. Both Gruissem and Rettenmaier had been one of the top four players for weeks, but could not surpass Schemion.

The GPI 2013 European Poker Awards will be held on January 29, 2014 at Casino de Deauville. The awards ceremony will be held as a part of the Deauville leg of the EPT. The best poker players of Europe will take part in this event.

The top ten players on the GPI National Germany Player of the Year leader board are Ole Schemion (3227.76), Philipp Gruissem (3031.37), Marvin Rettenmaier (3027.84), Martin Finger (2422.41), Fabian Quoss (2181.96), Dominik Nitsche (2149.76), Ismael Bojang (1639.25), Tobias Reinkemeier (1594.86), Benjamin Spindler (1547.40), and Jonas Lauck (1507.58).

Schemion has been doing well this year too. He finished in the seventh place at the PCA 2014 $100k Super High Roller tournament and will be one of the 251 poker players who will be taking part in Day 3 of the PCA Main Event.

The GPI has congratulated Ole Schemion and wished him all the best.
