Allyn Shulman Wins CPPT 2013 Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza Main Event

Female poker player Allyn Jaffrey Shulman has won the Card Player Poker Tour (CPPT) 2013 Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza III Main Event, which was held in Las Vegas. As the champion of the event, she scooped up a first-place prize of $293,966, which takes her lifetime poker tournament winnings beyond the $1.2 million mark.

A field of 262 players bought into the event for $5k each, generating a total prize pool worth $1,224,850. The event comprised five days of tough poker action, and notable poker players such as Dan O’Brien and Jonathan Little were among the finalists. The final head-up match was played between Shulman and Condon, at the end of which Shulman emerged as the champion and won the second largest jackpot of her poker career.

Her first biggest win came in 2011 when she won a World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelet and $603,713 after winning the $1k buy-in WSOP Seniors Event. When she realized she had actually won the WSOP Seniors Event, Allyn Shulman was stunned. She is reported to have said, “I’m happy for myself, but I’m happy for all women that I won this. Showing that any woman can win a poker tournament and I’d like to see more of them out there playing, feeling comfortable with going at it with the boys and winning.”

Female poker players have been doing exceedingly well of late. Last year, Vanessa Selbst won the second WSOP gold bracelet of her career and $244,259 by finishing first in the $2,500 buy-in 10-Game Mix event. While Shulman became the champion of the Seniors event the same year, Gaelle Bauman and Elisabeth Hille finished 10th and 11th respectively at the WSOP Main Event, narrowly missing the final table.

A number of female poker players have won prizes this year too. Loni Harwood and Dana Castaneda have both won open events at the WSOP 2013, winning bracelets and large cash prizes. And Shulman has once again made headlines by winning the CPPT Venetian Deep Stack Main Event.

Speaking about the enhanced performance of female poker players, Shulman said, “As years go by, women become more and more comfortable in all fields. For example, when I was a beginning lawyer, there were quite a lot of male lawyers and not a lot of female lawyers. So slowly, in different fields, women are breaking into those fields and pretty soon it will be all even.”

The runner-up of the event is Alex Condon, who collected a second-place prize of $181,278. The players who finished third and fourth were Dan O’Brien and Anthony Zinno, who won $122,485 and $86,964, respectively.

The CPPT is a live poker tournament series founded by Card Player, the biggest poker magazine in the US. The tour includes live broadcasting of its final table and a leader board. Every season, the top players of the CPPT are invited to take part in the CPPT Championship, which is held at the end of the season. More information is available at CardPlayerPokerTour.com.
